Disclosure: As part of the Netflix #StreamTeam I was provide service and a couple gifts.

Voltron is back! As a young boy, my friends and I watched every episode of the animated series featuring the futuristic super robot Voltron back in the mid-1980s. We really identified with the spaceship’s pilots who commanded a team of robot lions, transformed into the single large robot Voltron, to defend the planet Arus from the evil King Zarkon in the first season.

Voltron Season 2 on Netflix

DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender Season 2 coming to Netflix

The plot thickened during the second season when a team of pioneers went exploring for new planets to colonize. When confronted by the evil Drules, the colonists had to reconstruct a new Voltron robot, who could only sustain a very short transformation period, to help with their battle. This was all great until the cartoon series ended after 2 seasons, with limited success in resurrecting it.

In 2016, Voltron: Legendary Defender, produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, was released on Netflix. The first episode brought me back to my childhood and reminded me of the Transformers I used to play with. I still have my Transformers, which my own children play with. In the first season of the cartoon’s revival, a group of space pilots is again fighting evil with the use of 5 lions that transform into a robot warrior to help the cause. This time, the war is within the earth’s solar system. This brings the plot closer to home, which my children can grasp. The season ends on a cliffhanger after a perilous battle with the Galra Empire.

Voltron Season 2 Now on Netflix

I am so pleased that DreamWorks and Netflix have teamed up again to bring my family a continuation of Voltron Legendary Defender Season 2 this legendary animated feature. The pilots work to reunite the robot lions in a plan to defeat the Galras while they continue to search for new worlds. The first episode of the newest season is scheduled to air on Netflix January 20, 2017. Check out the trailer.

DreamWorks is an award winning animation film producer, a division of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. This collaboration with Netflix is awesome because we can stream content, watch it on TV, pause, resume, watch again, all without commercial interruptions.
