I have suffered from bad heartburn periodically. It especially hits me after I have eaten some of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. While I love our local fare, it does get the better of me when I indulge a bit too much. I get a burning sensation in my gut and then the rising pain and embarrassing belching kicks in. Ugh.
Bad Heartburn
I have successfully calmed the fire in my gut by taking an over the counter proton pump inhibitor (PPI), such as an Omeprazole or Prilosec capsule. I will generally take this for a few days, but never more than 14 in a row. However, I don’t always have a bottle of water with me when I need to take this. It is a bit of a nuisance for those of us who deal with heartburn and need to take action to be able to fully participate in daily activities. This is especially annoying when I am hiking with the kids and our crazy dog.
For those of us who suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion, it would be so much easier to be able to take our OTC medicine in a disintegrating tablet form. I was pretty psyched to recently learn of Omeprazole Orally Disintegrating Tablets. When I saw this option at our pharmacy I bought a couple of boxes. I make sure to keep some in the medicine cabinet, the glove compartment in my car, and in my backpack that I take on hikes. That way no matter where I am I can take the full regimen, which is is a 14-day treatment.
Heartburn Triggers
I can simply place a tablet in my mouth and allow it to melt. The strawberry flavor makes it really pleasant. Not having to hunt down some water to swallow a pill or capsule is such a relief.
Omeprazole ODT is a brand new, innovative form of the regular Omeprazole. The medicine works through something called MELTech technology. And, the greatest part about this is that it is available in my pharmacy’s store brand, which saves me some money. It works just as well as the brand Prilosec. I can get relief for up to 24 hours from one dissolving tablet. (Could add that the regimen needs to be taken for 14 days here if it works better than up above).
If you suffer from occasional acid reflux, as I do, make your life simpler by picking up some disintegrating PPIs from your local pharmacy or market. Look for the store brand Omeprazole rally Disintegrating Tablets, and save a little cash. Keep some tablets with you when you leave the house. Also, remember to only take them for up to 14 days at a time.
