A Letter From My Future Self

Disclosure: I have partnered with Life of Dad and Rogaine for this promotion.

While I sit here at home watching the children grow, I’m left to wonder why I did not prepare for this better when I was your age. Feeling invincible, you fail to take care of yourself, forgetting that the future is a reality you will be facing at some point. Your choices now will strongly impact your future and your family, so I would like to encourage you to make some changes to set yourself up for success down the road.

Me Old and Bald

A Letter From My Future Self

First off, please give your diet a full makeover. While the fried chicken and french fries seem like a great idea now, it will catch up to you in the end. Not only will your metabolism begin to slow and your waist begin to grow, but your body will not be receiving the proper vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy. Use this opportunity to fuel your body properly so it stays running for many years to come. Get used to those lean meats, fruits, and vegetables, because once you hit my age, your stomach won’t be able to handle all of that fried food anymore.

Diet and Watch that Hair Line

Proper nutrition will also help keep you looking young. While genetics do play a factor in this, your lifestyle can have a huge impact on your appearance. Work on issues as soon as you see them come up, as to not let problems get so severe that they slip out of your control. For example, you know that Elvis hair that you love? As soon as it begins to seem a bit thinner, start using Men’s Rogaine® Unscented Foam to help revitalize the hair follicles and keep them growing healthy and strong. This will help you stay looking your age for much longer.

Get Moving – Exercise

Please also start to exercise. It is hard to keep up with these active children because I am not in shape. They run around constantly and I try to stay with them and play, but I always end up having to take a break to sit down and catch a breath. Get your body into shape now so you can compete in these family soccer tournaments and flag football games. Even your young daughter can outrun you!

Make Memories Before it is Too Late

In addition to physical health, start spending more time with the family. You may not see this as possible right now, but in the future, you will be staying at home while your wife works to bring home the money. While staying at home is a very difficult job in itself, you may not have expected to be the one to be dependent on others for money. Be thankful that your future wife will work so hard to give you the comfortable life that you desire and make sure to spend as much time making memories with her now before life gets too crazy with children.

Stay committed to your passions so you do not lose your identity as you age. Mental and physical health are not things that are easy to get back once they are lost, so stay true to yourself and challenge yourself each day to make the healthiest choices possible. If you see an issue on the rise, be sure to take action right away, as to not let it get worse.

The most important thing I would like to tell you, current self, is to love everyone around you and encourage them to make healthy choices as well. You only have one life, so let’s make it right.

Sincerely,

Future Self

I laid my dad to rest today. Although our relati I laid my dad to rest today.

Although our relationship has been strained over the past 14 years, he was still my dad.

He instilled values in me that I have carried into adulthood and continue to pass down to my family.

He showed me how to care for and appreciate my wife in such a way that she knows I love her.

He taught me life lessons that I have been able to teach my own children.

I wish we could have had a more meaningful relationship so that he (and my mom) could have experienced my life, my family, with me, but I’m grateful for the time we had.

He’ll always be my dad and that seems like enough right now.
