How To

Have You Ever Wanted to be a Volunteer Firefighter

As a part for the #TeamKidde Ambassadorship I was provided compensation. All opinions are my own.

The Importance of Volunteer Firefighters

Have you ever thought how a firefighter’s quick thinking saves thousands of people each year from potential fire-related deaths? Often the first people who respond in emergency situations are volunteer firefighters. These unsung heroes play a vital role in our communities. 87 percent of America’s 30,000 fire departments are either fully or partially staffed by volunteers.  Yet, the number of volunteer firefighters is declining.

Fire Prevention Week

A Way of Life

Firefighters possess an extraordinary commitment to their community, most of which stems from their willingness to be put in harm’s way in an attempt to save others. The camaraderie found among men and women alike cannot be explained. The emotional bond between them is unsurmountable.

These men and women act as the first line of defense in an emergency, not only providing fire protection but also medical services. Volunteers dedicate significant training hours to ensure they are prepared, often at their own expense.

I can’t say I grew up wanting or dreaming to serve as a firefighter in any magnitude. But, I can think and say it would be a great honor and responsibility.

Step Up and Stand Out

It takes a certain type of person to step into a firefighter’s boots. Kidde is sponsoring the #StepUpStandOut volunteer firefighter awareness and recognition program. The Step Up and Stand Out program will raise awareness of the importance of volunteer firefighters and share information on how to become a volunteer. It also includes a contest to reward those volunteers who have gone beyond the call of duty.

Do you have someone you want to nominate? Anyone can nominate a local volunteer firefighter or support volunteer by submitting a video at firehouse.com/vf by May 21. Your entry needs to include an original, personal video no longer than 2 minutes. Tell how or why your nominee has gone above and beyond in their department. Make sure you include a photo of him or her as well as your info. Visit the Firehouse website for all the details.

Public online voting will narrow down to five finalists, and then select a grand prize winner.

Grand Prize Winner will receive:

o 200 10-year smoke alarms donated to their volunteer fire department

o NFPA Fire Prevention Week Kit

o VCOS membership

o Free admission to Firehouse Expo (includes education tracts)

o $1,000 training grant from Kidde to winner’s fire department

o RemoteLync™ home protection kit (to include Monitor and two Cameras)

So help me spread the word of this wonderful opportunity to recognize a few men and women that respond to the call.

If you want to nominate a local volunteer, enter them here.

Our girls have continued to homeschool through school closures, just as we’ve done for over a decade.

Online classes for many though have been an adjustment, and they can really slow down a home network with multiple devices.

Luckily #Verizon offers fast, reliable 5G internet in the #Dallas area!
