As my daughters continue to grow into more independent young ladies, I am always researching safe and efficient car options for when they get their driver’s licenses. Jaden will be turning 16 pretty soon, so now is the time to look at affordable cars.
I gravitate toward more compact cars that are also loaded with safety features, as well as fuel efficiency. The 2018 Toyota Corolla SE 4-door sedan is on my radar. I have always noticed that there are older Corollas still on the road that probably have close to 100 miles on them. The Corolla seems to be one of the compact cars that lives on and on and gets passed down from parent to child to sibling.
Safety First
The 2018 Corolla SE come with Standard Toyota Safety Sense. Some of the features of the safety package include:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Automatic High Beams
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Eight airbags
- Front and rear
energy absorbing crumple zones - Rear backup camera
- Engine and Fuel Economy
The 2019 SE has a 1.8L, 4 cylinder engine. It is a 6 speed manual transmission. Fuel efficiency is impressive at 27mpg city and 35mpg highway.
Sporty Design and Roomy Interior
The exterior features a sporty front grille, 17 inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, and Bi-LED headlights. The interior has front bucket seats and the car can hold 5 people plus gear in the rear cargo area. It is available with auto climate control.
Technology
As is available with most Toyotas, there is the Entune Audio Plus system and the Scout GPS link App. Integrated Bluetooth technology allows you to take calls and stream music. There is a smart key, push button start system, so no searching for keys at the bottom of a bag or backpack.
