As I continue my journey to explore the perfect car for our family and my growing girls, I had the opportunity to drive the Volkswagen Passat GT. The GT is a midsize sedan with room for 5. Here are some of the outstanding features of this VW.

Plenty of Power

The 3.6 Liter V6 on the Special GT and the SEL Premium gives plenty of get up and go.3 The turbo technology forces cooled air through the TSI® engine helping to provide impressive performance, horsepower, and torque.

Fuel Economy

I drove this car for 7 days and did not have to fill up the gas tank the entire time. I am sure I exceeded the recommended 22 MPG. According to VW the speedy turbo charged engine can get an EPA-estimated 36 MPG highway or 25 MPG city.36

Comfortable Ride

The interior of the Passat GT is upscale and roomy with front bucket seats and a second row seat that easily fits 3 people with 3 feet of leg room. Both front and back seats are heated. The interior air conditioning and heat are controlled by Climatronic® dual-zone automatic climate control.

Advanced Safety

The Passat GT has seven stability-enhancing features and a rigid safety cage. The 2018 Passat GT has earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The features include Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Forward Collision Warning with Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

My Takeaway

The VW Passat GT is definitely a great midsize car for a family that is downsizing as the kids get older and leave the nest. It’s comfortable for my wife and me and still roomy enough for 3 in the back.

The Passat GT is ideal for driving around town to get us all where we need to go in a hurry while still not breaking the bank on fuel. And, of course, it affords us the safety we always look for in a family car.
