The Toyota 4Runner has been one of the most popular on and off-road SUVs in the company’s lineup for over 35 years. Now there is the 4Runner TRD Sport that brings updated styling and performance to the 4Runner lineup.

Comfortable Ride
With enhanced road dynamics, the 4Runner TRD Sport features the proprietary Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension. This system enhances on-road handling while also damping the forces from uneven off-road terrain.
Both the 2 and 4-wheel drive versions offer 9 and 9.6-inches respectively of generous clearance from the ground. 20-inch tires add to the height and smooth ride.
4Runner TRD Sport – Performance
The 4Runner is powered by a 4-liter, V6, 270-horsepower with 278 lb.-ft. of torque. Coupled with the V6 is a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission that features a sequential shift mode that allows you to transition to manual shifting when you desire more control while driving on unstable terrain.
The available 4WD system employs Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) for optimal off-road gripping in wet or sandy conditions. The 4Runner TRD Sport is able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Unique Styling
The exterior of the 4Runner TRD Sport boasts of color-keyed accents on the front grille, rocker panels, and distinctive body molding. The hood scoop is an addition to the TRD.
There is also a front spoiler and back roof rails to complement the accent colors. All of the 2022 4Runners come with LED headlamps and fog lamps.
The interior cabin of the TRD Sport is equipped with SofTex trimmed seats. The black seats are trimmed in contrasting gray stitching. The front seat headrests have the TRD logo stitched into them. Signature TRD floor mats are standard.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The 4Runner TRD Sport is equipped with an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility are standard.
The multimedia system also includes a USB media port, advanced voice recognition with hands-free phone capability, and music streaming using Bluetooth connectivity.
Toyota Safety Suite
All 2022 4Runner models are equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense P (TSS-P). This is a premium suite of driver-assist technologies. The safety package includes Automatic High Beams, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure, and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. There are eight standard airbags throughout the interior cabin.
I like the new 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport mostly because it has the stature, height, and handling of an offroad SUV while still offering the comforts and smart technology of an on-road car.
