This summer, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation released the film VIVO. It is an animated musical that follows the adventures of Vivo, a musically gifted kinkajou (a rainforest “honey bear”) as he journeys to deliver a song to his cherished owner’s long-lost love.
Netflix VIVO is a Must Watch Movie
The Netflix VIVO film features all-new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda is the Tony, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of Hamilton and his latest venture In the Heights. Miranda is the voice behind Vivo.
Vivo spends his days playing music to the lively crowds in a town square with his owner Andrés. Andrés is voiced by Juan de Marcos of Buena Vista Social Club. Vivo and Andrés don’t speak the same language. However, they turn out to be a perfect duo through their common love of music.
Andrés receives a letter from the famous singer Marta Sandoval, voiced by Gloria Estefan, inviting her old partner to a farewell concert where she hopes to reconnect with him. Vivo is tasked with delivering a message that Andrés couldn’t do in the past. It is a love letter, in the form of a song, to Marta that he wrote a long time ago. In order to get to Marta, Vivo enlists the help of Gabi, a lively and quirky tween who bounces to her own drumbeat, to fulfill his owner’s wishes.
The film also features Gabi’s mother Rosa, a villainous Everglades python Lutador, a pair of star-struck spoonbills, and a trio of well-meaning but cray zealous scout troops. VIVO needs to find the courage, family in oddball friends, and the belief that music can open up the pathways to new worlds.
