The new 2018 Hyundai Kona is aptly named after the beautiful and rugged region of the Big Island of Hawaii. The area is a playground for elite athletes and adventurers. This compact crossover SUV (CUV) is perfectly suited for the adventurer. Its size makes it a great car for someone looking to head out for a day of exploration, a venture into the city, or to head off to college. In fact, I can see this being a perfect choice for when my daughter heads off college.
2018 Hyundai Kona SUV Crossover
It has a low and wide stance with a long wheelbase and short overhangs, ensuring easy handling and driving stability. The LED lighting adds to the high-tech appearance. The car comes in a variety of extroverted colors, such as Chalk White, Ultra Black, Sonic Silver, Thunder Gray, Pulse Red, Surf Blue, and Lime Twist.
The interior styling has strong horizontal lines creating a wide and spacious feel. While the car is low, it still has adequate front headroom. The comfy interior comes equipped with audio/navigation display and advanced infotainment features with a floating seven-inch touchscreen. It includes Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ capability. The Kona’s HVAC controls are surrounded by soft, fluid details that enhance it’s comfort-focused environment.
You have the option of a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson engine that produces 147 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 132 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Limited and Ultimate trims offer the Gamma 1.6-liter 4-cylinder direct-injected, turbocharged engine generating 175 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque from 1500-4500 rpm.
As you know, safety is a concern of mine, especially if one of the kids is going to take this CUV on an adventure where there is sure to be plenty of traffic. Kona offers advanced active safety features, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), front-view camera, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), High Beam Assist (HBA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW). And of course, multiple airbags are standard.
