The Ford Edge ST is the first SUV engineered by the Ford Performance Team. It boasts of a 2.7-liter, 335 horsepower turbocharged EcoBoost engine with 380 lb-ft. of torque.
Ford Edge ST
This car uses artificial intelligence technology to improve traction and reduce fuel consumption.
Here are some of the features I really like about this SUV:
All-Wheel Drive Disconnect
The Ford Edge ST is available with all-wheel drive disconnect for better traction. The disconnect also switches from AWD to two-wheel drive for improved fuel economy. The system uses a form of artificial intelligence with high-tech sensors that can calculate faster than human response. It interacts with the traction control system to detect wheel slip, receiving inputs from the anti-lock brakes to learn if that system is active.
Windshield Wiper Sensors
In addition to the quick responding all-wheel drive disconnect, the sensors check to see if the windshield wipers are on. This can assist in the car switching between AWD and two-wheel drive for optimal power.
Automatic Transmission
The new 8-speed automatic transmission introduces two overdrive gears. This decreases the engine rpm for improved fuel economy during highway cruising. The active transmission warm-up uses reclaimed heat energy to warm up the transmission more quickly. Along with a durable, synthetic, ultra-low-viscosity fluid component, friction is reduced to further help save fuel.
Auto Start and Stop
The Ford Edge ST offers a standard auto start-stop feature also helps to conserve fuel by shutting off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop. The engine automatically restarts when the driver releases the brake pedal. Deceleration fuel shut-off stops fuel flow to the engine when the vehicle is reducing speed.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation
The exhaust gas recirculation feature reduces harmful emissions. It also increases efficiency by allowing a larger throttle position. This reduces pumping losses. I like this because it helps to better protect the environment.
