While is Las Angeles a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity of attending a press event at DreamWorks Animations to learn about the upcoming Netflix release of Voltron The Legendary Defender. While watching the extended Pilot for the new Netflix Series I felt like I flashed back to the ‘80s sitting on my parent’s couch! The Pilot had me drawn in from start to finish. Voltron the Legendary Defender is Produced by Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, who are both huge fans of the original series who took their vision and love for the show into a new direction that fans of the original series from the 80’s would enjoy as well as new fans.

The animation was spectacular (especially compared to our crummy 80’s TV quality), the new soundtrack was the perfect mix of the old show and the new modern day sound, and the casted voice actors hit the spot by bring in those distinct personalities like the awkwardly noble Hunk voiced by Tyler Labine(Reaper, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) and the assertively brave Princess Allura voiced by Kimbery Brooks(Ben 10: Omniverse, Justice League: War).

Growing up in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s there were plenty of shows that caught my eye, some like: Astroboy, Transformers, Speed Racer and other classics… but nothing as special to me as Voltron Defender of the Universe! The show taught me about friendship and how important it is to be a good team player so in return we have all make a good team like the Lions make Voltron. Without one Lion Voltron could not defend or defeat. With DreamWorks Animation and Netflix bringing this show back around I am excited to have my kids watch the new series with me. While my girls may be learning about Voltron for the first time, I hope they will learn the important traits Voltron has to offer. Although I am a Voltron Veteran, I anticipate seeing a new side to the show I loved as a child.

You can binge watch the complete first season of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix as soon as June 10th! Read more about the show and check out the official trailer below:

“The Netflix original series DreamWorks Voltron Legendary Defender reimagines one of the most popular fan-favorite shows of all time in this all-new comedic action-packed show from executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender) and co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery (The Legend of Korra).

I laid my dad to rest today. Although our relati I laid my dad to rest today.

Although our relationship has been strained over the past 14 years, he was still my dad.

He instilled values in me that I have carried into adulthood and continue to pass down to my family.

He showed me how to care for and appreciate my wife in such a way that she knows I love her.

He taught me life lessons that I have been able to teach my own children.

I wish we could have had a more meaningful relationship so that he (and my mom) could have experienced my life, my family, with me, but I’m grateful for the time we had.

He’ll always be my dad and that seems like enough right now.
