Disclosure: I am part of Verizon Wireless #VZWBuzz team, and this post is all in my own opinion. Thank You!

Have you ever asked yourself that question? How smart is my home? I have, in fact I have always wanted my house to be one step ahead of me. You might think I am weird, but I kinda like the idea of my thermostat knows my preferred temperatures with out me having to tell it. In fact that is why we picked up a Nest Home Thermostat from our Verizon Wireless Store over two years ago. Actually, at that time the Nest Home Thermostat was one of the smartest things, next to my wife. The Nest Home Thermostat ended up help cut back on usage and saved us a little change on our monthly bill. But, the main reason I bought it, is for the away from the home features. The convenience of adjusting the household temperature has been helpful in many situations.

11 Tips for an Eco Friendly

Earlier this year we visited with a few reps from Belkin, the makers of WeMo products. WeMo, is a home automation tool that can turn home electronics on or off from your smartphone or tablet. Which is awesome to use on lamps, fans, kitchen gadgets, Christmas lights, and even home audio components. Even the makes of WeMo have developed LED lighting options, were you can screw in standard LED’s that will be controlled from the same app.

The latest edition to our Smart Home, is the Dropcam HD. This little baby has to be one of the easiest network pieces I have ever used. The Dropcam lets you enjoy sharp, HD video streamed to a smartphone or tablet. Also, talk directly to people and pets using the built-in mic and speaker while getting alerts when the camera detects motion and sound.

I’ve partnered with @TxDOT to remind you that all distractions – whether texting, eating, grooming, having a conversation, etc. – can be dangerous. #ad   That is why my family and I are also taking the AT&T It Can Wait pledge at http://www.ItCanWait.com/ to never drive distracted. As I get older and wiser as a dad of 5, I realize parenting is mostly about preparation. That is why I am proud to partner with @TxDOT on educating my daughters about distracted driving.    As a young guy, I found myself preparing to be a dad, or at least a good dad. Now I find myself preparing my children to be good people and safe drivers on the road. Jaci and I have been going over distracted driving prevention tips and having a little fun with the new web-based AR game – Dart Those Distractions. It helps promote safe driving in a fun way.   Check out the link in my bio to play. #HeadsUpTexas #EndTheStreakTX #ad
