Last Spring, Hyundai introduced its new 2022 gas and hybrid Tucson SUVs to the US marketplace. According to Hyundai, The new Tucson represents the future of the brand’s full-spectrum eco-powertrain approach.
The Perfect Compact SUV
Offerings include internal combustion, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models in a compact SUV. All-wheel-drive capability has been added to the new hybrid SUV platforms. The Tucson appeals to those who embrace the integration of technologies with their lifestyles.
Dynamic Exterior Design
Tucson’s new exterior styling expresses Hyundai’s evolving sensuous and sporty identity. Hyundai refers to this design sensibility as Parametric Dynamics with kinetic, gem-like surface detailing that emphasizes Tucson’s distinct identity in the SUV market.
The reimagined design has some tech attached to it, such as innovative half-mirror type daytime running lamps that are integrated seamlessly within the parametric front grille. These are only visible when the lights are turned on.
Tucson’s side panels convey the look of powerful forward motion. The front hood is long, as is the wheelbase. The car is geometrically crisp with angles and edges that offer both strong lines and a sleek silhouette.
Comfortable and Spacious Interior
Tucson’s interior imparts a serene sensibility with multi-layered forms that provide a feeling of comfort and openness. The broad dashboard blends seamlessly with the doors to wrap around the cockpit occupants. The ambient lighting is adjustable to 64 colors with 10 levels of brightness to set any mood you desire.
There are 3 new technologies, including a 10.25-inch full-touch screen, a hoodless digital gauge cluster, and a multi-air ventilation system with temperature-adjusting that provides diffused airflow for the driver and front passenger.
Tucson’s second-row seats have what is called fold-and-dive functionality for optimized reconfiguration capability between passenger and cargo space. The passenger area has been increased by six cubic feet and the cargo volume has been increased by 7.7 cubic feet.
Smartstream Engine
The 2022 Tucson offers both a Smartstream 2.5-liter, direct-injected, and multi-port-injected gasoline engine as well as a 1.6-liter, direct-injected, turbocharged hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. This redesigned engine, with high-efficiency combustion, cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), also brags of 187 horsepower at 178 lb.-ft. of torque.
The combined fuel economy of 28 mpg is paired with front-wheel drive. This engine is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission for excellent acceleration.
