Niro Concept Reality

Following the Niro Concept of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor show, the 2017 Kia Niro will get nearly 50 mpg due to a dedicated platform and a unique hybrid system. It without a doubt maintains the appeal of a utility vehicle with incredible fuel efficiency. Fall 2016 is the projected release date for the new dedicated hybrid by Kia, rivaling the Prius in both style and cost.

The Niro is a new gas-electric 1.6-liter, 4 cylinder set up run on an Atkinson cycle. This direct injection gas engine combined with an electric motor puts out an impressive 146 horsepower with 195 pound-feet of torque and is powered by a 1.56 kilowatt hour lithium ion polymer battery which also runs a transmission-mounted electric motor. Coupled with the updates to the 2nd generation Kia 6 speed dual clutch transmission to deliver quicker shifting and a finer tuned drivetrain for seamless power delivery and linear braking capabilities means this dedicated hybrid actually competes with vehicles powered solely by gas engines.

The styling of the Niro also isn that of a hybrid vehicle. Kia pulled out all the stops to make this hybrid more aesthetically pleasing than it rival, The Prius. Codesigned in California and Korea styling centers, the Niro looks like a regular car with clean, wide proportions paired with their signature Tiger Nose grill up front and LED taillights on the back. The cabin has a clean and modern feel and whereas the dash may look dull compared to some of it rivals, it benefits from some Kia technologies like Kia UVO infotainment system with an auto phone integration and a 3-D topographical map that the car uses to precharge its battery before encountering hills which is groundbreaking among hybrids, joining a handful of other hybrids that do just the opposite for a decline.

Also included is a navigational aid driver that gives you advise on when to lift off the throttle and coast for the best fuel economy. Among other optional features include blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency brakes, and lane departure warnings, making the Niro not only cost efficient but also one of the safest cars of 2017. The Niro also has features to enhance the hybrid utility vehicle comfort level for the driver and his passengers. Higher seating and denser seat cushions provide easy access and support on long-distance ventures. With stiffer suspension bushings and sound insulation coupled with an acoustic windshield helps to keep the cabin of the Niro quiet. Unique engine mounts and dampers inside the steering wheel minimize vibration. To maximize cabin and cargo space the lithium battery pack is located under the back seats.
